Story: Our family has been hit by this horrible disease. My grandfather was diagnosed in 2007 and died the following year. He had the Whipple surgery and tried chemo but didn't like the effects from it. He was an amazing man. He was the foundation to our family. It has been almost 2 years since he passed and we are still struggling with it. To make things worse my grandmother just passed during Christmas. Now that both of them are gone, it's that much worse. We miss them so much. Our family is not as strong since the foundation is gone. I would just tell families that are as unfortunate as us to have to go through this disease to keep the strength, the faith, and the love between you all. It's a long hard road, but if you have each other, you will be ok. Pancreatic Cancer has become one of my passions since my grandfathers [Passing]. I want to learn more about it and help the cause of finding a cure in any way that I can. Thank you for doing this DeSean.

First Name: Patrick Submitted: March 27, 2010
Story: My father died from Pancreatic Cancer May 24, 2002 a short 48 days after diagnosis. This was not too long after 9/11. Maybe everyone justifies a family death in some manner to make them feel better, but in retrospect, what my dad did was fair. He died. PC was gracious as it didn't make him jump out of a window (like 9/11 victims) with no chance to say goodbye. Likewise, it was not a 10 year battle with cancer that is filled with remissions and recurrences and the ups and downs that come with that. It was brutal to walk through. However, if there was a gift, it was these 48 days we had.
They think about 10% of PC is hereditary. My dad died of it and he has 2 other first cousins that died of it and also a sister that was diagnosed with it about a month ago. John's Hopkins has a center for the Familial research of PC. I want to help.
Anyway, sorry to hear of your loss DeSean. You keep running and I'll keep cheering you on, Both on the football field and also in your celebrity to bring an awareness to this and providing a place to coordinate efforts.
